‘Tis the season for giving ... yourself a holiday
Holiday
firm Thomas Cook is predicting a record number of bookings on Christmas
Day, with Canary Islands, Turkey and Egypt the most popular
destinations
We may be dreaming of a white Christmas, but we’ll be
planning our summer getaways during the festive period, with Thomas Cook
predicting a record number of bookings on Christmas Day. The holiday
firm expects bookings to peak at 8pm, once people have finished their
Christmas dinner, and says the Canary Islands, Turkey and Egypt are
likely to be the most popular destinations.
Last year ThomasCook.com received 130,000 hits on Christmas Day and this year the holiday company expects an even higher number, as more people use their tablets, mobiles and computers to make their bookings. Boxing Day is traditionally the busiest day, with almost 300,000 hits on ThomasCook.com last year.
Online bookings now make up more than 38% of all bookings at the company.
Salman Syed, managing director of Thomas Cook UK and Ireland, said: “More and more customers are taking time out from the festive celebrations to book their summer holiday online on Christmas Day.”
