The Interview: Watch Eminem declare he's GAY in hilarious surprise cameo
The Monster rapper appears in the opening scenes with James Franco's late-night talk show host Dave Skylark
The Monster rapper makes a surprise cameo in the opening scenes of the controversial new Sony comedy, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen, as a guest on Franco's character Dave Skylark's late-night chat show, Skylark Tonight.
Playing himself, the rapper - real name Marshall Mathers - casually mentions he's gay while explaining the lyrical content of his songs. Of course, this causes Skylark (Franco) and his producer (Rogen) to then focus the rest of the chat entirely around his coming out much to his publicist's chagrin.
Skylark says, "[People] are probably shocked by what you’re saying."
Eminem deadpans: "I’m more shocked people haven’t figured it out yet. I mean, it’s kind of like I’ve been playing gay peekaboo."
The star, 42, has been one of the major talking points from the bawdy flick on Twitter since Sony released it through Video on Demand services on Christmas Eve - despite previously pulling its cinematic release due to a 9/11-style terrorist threat by cyber-hackers the Guardians of Peace.
One person tweeted: "I'm DYING watching #TheInterview...@Eminem killed his part. 'I've been playing gay peekaboo!' "
Another said: "Man!!! Eminem gay??? on #TheInterview I love how they portray the craziness over a celebrity coming out. LOL! #Hilarious."
The Interview finally saw the light of day on December 24 as Sony announced an innovative online rental deal with partners such as Google Play, YouTube Movies, as well as releasing the film through its own website.
The film will also be screened in 320 independent cinemas across the United States from December 25. This comes after Sony Pictures pulled its wide release last week when larger cinema chains opted against screening the film following a terrorist threat.
Controversy around The Interview mounted last month when Sony Pictures was the victim of an unprecedented cyber attack at the hands of the mysterious Guardians of Peace, which has leaked everything from confidential financial information to embarrassing emails sent by movie boss Amy Pascal and top Hollywood producer Scott Rudin.
Last week, the FBI implicated North Korea as the culprit of the hack, possibly in retaliation for the film's depiction of the assassination of leader Kim Jong-un.
Critical reaction to The Interview in the hours since its released has been mixed at best; it currently holds a 50% fresh rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

A lot of the praise for the film went, rather ironically to, Randall Park, the man who portrays Kim Jong-um. The Independent wrote, "Randall Park, who plays Kim, is a riot throughout."
